Bitcoin/crypto critics say digital tokens, and their art form known as NFTs are like Tulip Mania that took place in 17th-century Holland. They generated a wild, speculative rush (the price of tulips increased 200 times; at the peak of the bubble, a single bulb could sell for ten times a worker's annual wage) that quickly disappeared, leaving behind nothing but pretty flowers and wrecked bank accounts.
